Cheop's Solar Barge
Cheop's or Khufu was a Pharoah of Ancient Egypt. He reigned from 2589 BC to 2566 BC. He was the Second Pharoah of the fourth Dynasty. He is the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza, The only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that still exists.
In 1954, Archeologists discovered and opened four pits at the base of the Great Pyramid, three were empty, but in one they were amazed to find the pieces of entire wooden boat. In 1987 a fifth boat was found in still another pit, this boat has not been excavated yet. The original boat was carefully rebuilt and is now on display in a special building next to the pyramid..
Although made of cedar planks, the boat is in the style of boats made out of papyrus reeds. The evidence shows that the boat had actually been used in the water at some point. Archeologists are unsure if the boat was just used in the funeral or during the king's lifetime.

A Micromodel, "Might Have Been"
In June 1954, Geoffrey Heighway read about the discovery of the boat in the "Daily Telegraph", which had an article discussing the discovery of ancient Egyptian boats near the pyramids. Other than the article, there is nothing else about this model in the Micromodel archives. We have endeavored to create this model as Geoffrey Heighway would have. This model is a representation of the boat as it is displayed in the museum. It comes with a beautiful pyramid shaped display stand, emblazoned with Cheops' royal cartouche.
